Christianity and the Survival of Creation

I am a pretty religious person, I think God, Jesus, the Holy Ghost any everyone is the BOMB. But unfortunately in my life I have not had very good church’s to go to. But I went to church until probably my seventh grade year. Then I stopped attending church this was very hard for me. I was an usher and was a very big part in my church but they didn’t completely grasp me with their concepts and the constant changing of priest and “substitute bishops”. I did however try other church’s and they were all practically the same, it really kind of pissed me off, but I tried to stay as much in the church as I could. This is why I agree with berry when he says that you do not have to go to church on a regular basis to believe in god and his teachings. But then again I do not agree with him and also would tend to say he is semi hypocritical because he criticizes Christians who do not read the bible to its full extent. I mean if that’s not hypocritical I don’t know what is, how are you going to say you don’t have to come to church and your good but if you don’t read the bible the fuck off. But this was a little confusing of a read I think.

The Argument Culture

Okay i know it has been like four weeks but now i am back, i took a leap of absence.i think the argument culture is a very good read. Deborah tanner brought up some very good points and had very good perspectives. Such as saying that we should try and avoid the two sided debates, but today that is very easy to achieve, mostly because the television stations mostly agree with one side or another. so i like the essay, good job deborah tannen.

In defense of talk shows

I really hate talk shows to begin with. But for the most part I liked this essay. I think that Ehrenreich has really been inside my head. She hits on all the points that I think about when I watch one of these ridiculously stupid shows( which occurs in about mid to late summer, when there is not any baseball to be played or practiced and it’s like 110 degrees outside, AND there’s absolutely no sporting events or anything on TV but these stupid ass shows). Like really what kind of state of mind do you have to be on to actually want to get on one of these shows? They really do lack love, schooling and are just looking to attention on TV. If these problems are really that bad there are always the police for beatings. “Oh but he’ll come back and beat my ass and rape me again”. No he won’t if you actually follow your part of the restraining order, if the man goes to jail and gets butt raped enough he’ll know to actually either stop doing what he’s doing or find another girl who was dumb like you and beat and rape her all day. I also like how she says they way her interviews would be in the end, mine would be the same way.

The Whole Horse

The white horse was a pretty good essay. I brought up a lot of good points about our economy and many people’s view on money now a days. These days people are very greedy with their money and they don’t really care about the nation as a whole. Even more so with big businesses these days. I really like how Berry says, “this is an economy, and in fact a culture, of the one night stand. “I had a good time,” says the industrial lover, “but don’t ask me my last name.” Just so, the industrial eater says to the svelte industrial hog, “we’ll be together at breakfast. I don’t want to see you before then, and won’t care to remember you afterwards.” It really describes our nation these days, how were just fucking each other for one night and one thing. Consider most big companies, they have a surplus of underpaid employees that do their work with almost no complaints, while they just sit up in their offices and consider what necktie to wear to their lunch reservation with their other corporate monsters that they are meeting for lunch. But again it was a pretty good essay, I like the cat one more though.

Attack of the killer cats

It is very interesting how bored or interested in very weird topics people get, isn’t it? A group of scientist in Europe did a study on how many animals cats kill in a year. Well although it is weird we have to write about it and I’m not very happy to be doing so, I don’t really like cats to begin with. Besides that fact, this group of scientist did this survey and found out that the cats do actually kill a lot of other animals during the course of a year. At the end the year the cats had killed a staggering 1100 animals including mice, voles, shrews, rabbits, weasels, bats, and many birds. To me this is frightening cats can manage to kill birds!!! Birds fly!!!!!! Maybe this should not surprise me or anyone else though. If I remember correctly in the Egyptian era cats were worshiped and kept as an occasional body guard. So there is a new predator out there in the world now. We as humans should be scared they may come for us!! This one super freak cat killed over 400 animals in one year, I’m almost positive he could take on a small child or baby. All I’m trying to say is be aware, and kill all the cats you can!!!

Why we crave horror movies

I agree with Stephen King on all cylinders in this essay. I think one of the main reasons people go to movies is to see what sick, twisted, nasty fantasy people outside of them has. Maybe even sometimes the people have the same as the movie entails. Also now a days we have a very egotistic society so I couldn’t agree more with King when he says “Why? Some of the reasons are too simple and obvious. To show that we can, that we are not afraid, that we can ride this roller coaster”(311-312). Also I think everyone in this great nation and in every nation in the world is insane, to a certain extent or degree. Just as king says, when he says “if we are all insane, then sanity becomes a matter of degree. If your insanity leads you to carve up a woman like Jack the ripper or the Cleveland torso murderer, we clap you away to the funny farm if, on the other hand, your insanity leads you to talk to yourself when you’re under stress or to pick your nose on the morning bus, then you are just left alone to go about your business.”

once more to the lake

Once More to the Lake is a great example for a remembering essay. The author captured my attention and brought me back to summer when he described the glorious and peaceful days of summer vacation. In my opinion he did a good job of bringing back some of my typical summer memories. The essay has a great voice and allows the reader to be able to bring back their own personal memories from a family vacation. The descriptions throughout the story help to establish the setting and mood. I really liked when he described the lake as “cool and motionless”, and his “fear of disturbing the stillness of the cathedral.” (21).

I felt very relaxed as I read. This was because of his descriptions of summer perfection. I love those places that you visit every year, and it is exactly the same, just as beautiful and perfect as the year before. It is a place that no matter what you wouldn’t want it to change because if it did there would be no reason to come back. One sentence that in my opinion summed up the theme of the essay was, “Summertime, oh summertime, pattern of life indelible, the fade-proof lake, the woods unshatterable, the pasture with the sweetfern and the juniper forever and ever, summer without end;” (23)

Walking on

I don't really get this essay at all. What I understand in this story was that we need a more natural planet, we build to much and don't respect what we have enough. I think that we already have done too much to this planet and it will not support life as long as it already has, but she is just a little more "in touch" with the environment than I am. When she talks about the African hunter Cummings(pg 73) saying that some things in nature have the best smells I do believe her. Nature is always better than man made. I really am not with her or against her on respecting our planet because i think we have already done too much to it, like I said before, but I think this was very boring and poorly written.

How to mark a book

In high school, I was one of the people who had a very clean and very well taken care of books, mainly because I didn’t want to have to pay for that shit. But when now I have to buy my books for myself I mark them as much as I can. It really helps me when I’m reading to comprehend the book a lot better. “First it keeps you awake”, (pg 22) this is probably the truest thing that Mortimer Adler said in this paper. When I read it’s like the sand man comes and throws whatever sleeping solution he has all over me, I seem to die when I start to read( unless it’s a war book that talks about brown-brown). Also I really agree with Adler when he says you should write all the important things down, it really does help you memorize things. I’m a little thrown off by the way Adler get so in touch with his books, it’s a little weird. He really loves his and wants to own them, but I don’t know if I like reading that much yet. As for letting friends borrow my books its fine with me if they write in my book it will probably help me understand it more if they do that.

Shitty first draft

"Shitty first drafts. All good writers have them"(74). I couldn't agree with this statement more. this is always why I think that I am a horrible writer, I think that all my first drafts are amazing. I think that this is an extremely well written paper or essay whatever you want to call it. I especially liked the sequencing of her paper compared to a human life, "The first draft is the child's draft, where you let it all pour out and then let it romp all over the place, knowing that no one is going to see it and that you can shape it later."(75) Also the way the you write all the paper at first is a very good way to lose bad and retain good ideas. The people in the head was a little weird but I assume everyone has those. I also assume everyone to a certain extent feels a trigger getting closer and closer to being pulled as the time gets closer to the quick arriving deadline. But this is a good way to have a good paper, the three day process or three paper process. In the very near I will probably use it, it has already taught me that I should do more than one draft.
